IP Routing Table Limit Exceeded

Issue: One of our customers reported one of their sites couldn’t get to servers hosted at the Data Centre. Doing a traceroute from their CPE suggested that the last hop stopped at the MPLS VPN.

I enabled dynamic routing protocol debugging on the concerned devices. I could see routes have been received but the router didn’t install it in its routing table. I checked the logs and saw this:

Jul 31 16:30:33: %IPRT-3-ROUTELIMITEXCEEDED: IP routing table limit exceeded - vrf_A
Jul 31 15:18:50: %IPRT-3-ROUTELIMITEXCEEDED: IP routing table limit exceeded - vrf_A
Jul 31 08:58:45: %IPRT-3-ROUTELIMITEXCEEDED: IP routing table limit exceeded - vrf_A

Solution: There was a misconfiguration on the allowed maximum routes. It was set to 40. Changing this to a higher value resolved the issue.

ip vrf vrf_A
 maximum routes 40 80
