Fortigate Invalid Compressed Format

Issue: I tried to upgrade Fortigate 100D to latest firmware 5.0.7. After I restored to factory settings I couldn’t access it anymore using FortiExplorer so i tried consoling to it. I found out that the firmware was lost, then I tried to upload a firmware via console but I’m always getting this error no matter what TFTP softwares (3CDaemon, Solarwinds and TFTPd), firmware versions (checked the checksum all good) and ethernet cable I used.

  1. Hi,

This worked for me, thank you!
Have been troubleshooting our failed legacy Fortigate 50b all morning!

  2. We get the same exact issue with a 100D and fix it using your solution after having lost 1 day…

    thumbs up for you.

  3. Gracias! Excelente, me permitió recuperar una docena de equipos que había dado por muertos.

  4. For errors:
    invalid compressed format (err=1)
    invalid compressed format (err=2)

Also try to transfer the images from a tftp server that hasn’t got vpn clients installed (especially Cisco Vpn Client)
