This article guides you how to create a Forticlient SSL VPN app launcher in Ubuntu 14.04.

First of all, download the Forticlient SSL VPN for Linux from support.fortinet.com. Make sure you have a valid contract to be able to download the software. As the time of writing the software version is 4.0.2303.

Once you got the software, extract it anywhere. I personally put 3rd party software on /opt. Make the entire package executable

chmod +x forticlientsslvpn.

Test it by running

sudo ./forticlientsslvpn

You should get the EULA page, accept and the Forticlient window appears.

Go to settings to setup your connection SSL VPN profile.

Open Vim or Gedit, paste the configuration presented below. Make sure you change the Icon and Exec parameters to suit your needs. Save it to your desktop and name it as Forticlient.desktop.

[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Terminal=false
Icon[en_AU]=/opt/forticlientsslvpn/forticlientsslvpn.gif
Icon=/opt/forticlientsslvpn/forticlientsslvpn.gif
Exec=/opt/forticlientsslvpn/fortisslvpn.sh
Name[en_AU]=Forticlient
Comment[en_AU]=Forticlient SSL VPN
Name=Forticlient
Comment=Forticlient SSL VPN

Move Forticlient.desktop to /usr/share/applications/.

sudo mv ~/Desktop/Forticlient.desktop /usr/share/applications/

Open Dash, search for Forticlient and drag the icon to the Launcher.
